Our Process

How We Fix a Bad TV Mount

01

Assess the existing installation

We examine the bracket, fixings, and wall condition. We identify exactly what failed and what the correct solution is before touching anything.

02

Safe TV removal

We remove the TV from the bracket carefully, protecting both the TV and the wall surface. We do not rush this step.

03

Remove and assess old fixings

We remove the existing bracket and assess the existing holes — whether they are usable, need filling, or should be relocated entirely for a better result.

04

Correct installation

We reinstall the bracket using the correct fixings for your wall type — gravity anchors, stud fixings, rawl plugs, or sleeve anchors as required. Everything torqued to specification.

05

Load check and TV rehang

We apply a load check to the bracket before hanging the TV. Once confirmed solid, we rehang the TV, level it, reconnect cables, and clean up.

Common Causes

Why TV Mounts Fail

Wrong fixings for the wall type

Standard wood screws in plasterboard, plugs too small, or wrong thread size for the bracket bolts.

Not anchored to studs when required

Large or heavy TVs on plasterboard need stud fixing. Without it, the weight slowly pulls the fixings out.

Too few fixing points

Brackets specify minimum fixing points. Using fewer means each point carries more load than it was rated for.

Fixings not fully tightened

Loose bolts vibrate and widen the hole over time. Within weeks, a slightly loose fixing becomes a significantly loose one.

Wrong bracket for the TV weight

Budget brackets rated for 20kg on a 30kg TV will eventually fail. The VESA pattern and weight rating must both be correct.

Started a DIY install and got stuck?

No judgement — finishing DIY jobs is a regular job for us. Wrong drill angle, holes in the wrong spot, no stud check, or no level — all common snags. We fill old holes and remount cleanly.

Common Questions

Fix TV Mount FAQ

My TV is wobbling on the wall — is it dangerous?

Yes, a wobbly TV mount is a safety risk and should be treated urgently. A TV coming off the wall can cause serious injury and significant damage to the TV and surrounding property. Do not keep using a wobbling bracket. Call us and we can assess and fix it — same-day subject to availability.

What causes a TV to come away from the wall?

The most common causes are wrong fixings (standard rawl plugs in plasterboard, or plugs too small for the load), the bracket not being attached to studs when the wall required it, insufficient number of fixing points for the TV weight, or fixings not being fully tightened during original installation.

Can the old holes be filled if you redo the installation?

Yes. When we redo a mounting job, we fill and make good the original drill holes as part of the service. The new bracket is positioned either in the same location (if the holes are usable) or in a better position, and old holes are neatly filled and painted if needed.

How do I know if my TV mount is safe?

A safe TV mount should have zero movement when you push or pull on the bracket firmly. There should be no creak, no flex, and no visible gap between the bracket and the wall. If you can wobble the TV by pushing it sideways or up/down, the installation is not safe.

My previous installer used the wrong fixings — can you redo it properly?

Yes — remedial remounts are a regular job for us. We remove the existing bracket, assess what went wrong, fill and repair the original holes, and install the bracket correctly with the right fixings for your wall type. We bring everything needed.

Can you fix a TV that is not level?

Yes. A TV that is visibly crooked on the wall is a levelling issue. Some bracket types have adjustment screws that allow the TV to be levelled without removing it from the wall. Others require partial reinstallation. Either way, this is typically a single-visit fix once we assess the bracket on the day.

How much does it cost to fix a bad TV installation?

Fixing a poorly-installed TV starts from £100 (re-mount only) and most rescue jobs land in our Standard tier (from £150) because we typically need to make good the wall, re-fix anchors, and re-route cables. See /pricing.
