Mounting a Large TV on the Wall Safely

Large TVs — 65”, 75”, and 85” — need a different approach to standard installs. Two-person lift on every 65”+ job, heavier fixings, VESA compatibility check, and load-distribution calculation against bracket arm length and TV centre of gravity before drilling. Part of our full TV wall mounting service across London.

Large-TV installs above 65 inches are a regular job for us across London — Richer Sounds Approved, vetted to handle their customers’ premium hardware.

The Challenge

Why Large TVs Need More Care

Large TVs are heavy and awkward

An 85" TV can weigh 45–55kg and spans nearly 2 metres. A single person cannot safely lift, hold, and hang it simultaneously. Without two experienced installers, the risk of dropping or misaligning is high.

Bracket selection matters more

A large TV on the wrong bracket — or a bracket with insufficient weight rating — can pull fixings out of the wall over time. The lever effect of an extended full-motion arm with a 35kg TV at the end is enormous.

VESA compatibility is critical

Large TVs (75"+) often use 600×400mm or 800×400mm VESA patterns. Not all brackets support these sizes. We check VESA compatibility before every job and will advise if your bracket is not suitable for your TV.

Installation Process

How We Install Large TVs

01

VESA & bracket check

We confirm your TV's VESA pattern and verify the bracket is rated for the weight and VESA size before anything else.

02

Wall assessment

We check wall type, stud positions (for plasterboard), and scan for cables and pipes at the proposed mounting location.

03

Mark and drill

Our team works together to mark the exact position, level the bracket, and drill fixing points with precision.

04

Two-person TV hang

One team member holds the TV while the other aligns and secures it to the bracket — ensuring correct engagement and preventing drops.

05

Cables and testing

Cables connected, picture and sound tested before we leave. Cable management is available as an add-on on top of the install.

Common Questions

Large TV Mounting FAQ

Is it safe to wall mount a 75 inch TV?

Yes — a 75" TV can be safely wall mounted on brick, concrete, or plasterboard with the correct bracket and fixings. A 75" TV typically weighs 25–35kg. We use stud-mounted or heavy-duty spread brackets and confirm all fixings are rated above the TV's weight before installation.

Do I need two people to mount a large TV?

For TVs 65" and above, we send a two-person team. Large TVs are awkward to handle alone — one team member holding the TV while the other aligns and secures it to the bracket is essential for accuracy and safety. Large-TV pricing uses the same structure as our other installs — see our pricing page for current rates.

What bracket should I use for a 75" or 85" TV?

For large TVs, you need a bracket with a VESA pattern that matches your TV (most 75"+ TVs use 600×400mm VESA) and a weight rating significantly above your TV's weight — we recommend at least 2x safety margin. Full motion brackets on large TVs need extra care — the lever load when extended can be very significant. We assess VESA and bracket compatibility before every job.

Can a 75" TV be mounted on a plasterboard wall?

Yes — but the approach differs from smaller TVs. For 75" TVs on plasterboard, we always prefer a stud-mounted bracket. If studs are not in the right position, we use a load-spreading steel plate anchored with multiple heavy-duty cavity fixings to distribute the weight safely.

How high should a 75 inch TV be mounted on the wall?

The centre of a 75" TV should sit at eye level when seated — typically 100–110cm from the floor. For a 75" TV, the bottom edge of the screen would be approximately 55–65cm from the floor. We always measure and mark the position with you on the day before drilling.

What is included in the large TV installation service?

A two-person team attends, VESA and bracket compatibility check, wall assessment and fixing selection, full installation, devices connected and tested, and cleanup. Bracket either works — you supply your own (we fit it for labour only), tell us when you book and we add the right one to your quote, or buy one from the van on the day. Cable hiding is available as an add-on.

How much does it cost to mount a large (75"+) TV?

Large TV (75–98") mounting starts from £150 and most installs use our Premium tier (from £200). Two installers are required for safety on TVs above 75" — included in the tier price. See /pricing.

Despite the challenges posed as a result of the large size of my TV (98") and the incompatible wall brackets I bought for it; TVMount was unfazed by these challenges as he found a way round it.
