Philips Ambilight
TV Installation
Ambilight only works if the TV has the right clearance from the wall. We use the correct bracket standoff depth, route cables without blocking the LEDs, and set up your Ambilight mode — so the effect works exactly as Philips designed it. Part of our full TV wall mounting service.
We have installed Philips Ambilight TVs across London and the South East — including OLED+959, OLED+908, and The One models. We know what clearance is needed before we arrive.
About This TV
What Makes the Philips Ambilight Different
Ambilight is not just a screen — it is a lighting system built into the TV. That changes how it must be installed. Most fitters do not know this until the Ambilight stops working.
Why People Buy It
The TV That Lights the Room
Ambilight projects coloured light from LEDs on the back edges of the TV onto the wall behind it — extending the image beyond the screen. In a dark room, this dramatically reduces eye strain and makes the picture feel larger. The OLED+959 and OLED+908 combine this with LG's OLED evo panel and Philips' own P5 processor for one of the best picture-and-lighting combinations available.
The Critical Installation Requirement
5–8cm Clearance Behind the TV
Philips specifies a minimum of 5–8cm clearance between the back of the TV and the wall for Ambilight to project correctly (per Philips's published guidance). A standard flat bracket sits the TV 20–30mm from the wall — not enough. The LEDs reflect off the wall at the wrong angle, and the effect appears broken or invisible. We see this regularly when called out to fix prior installations.

The Installation Difference
Why Most Fitters Get This Wrong
General TV fitters use whichever flat bracket they have in the van. For an Ambilight TV, this typically leads to a poor result — the TV ends up mounted too close to the wall, the LEDs get blocked, and the customer only discovers the problem when they turn Ambilight on. We check the clearance requirement before we arrive and choose the bracket that fits the agreed setup.
Ambilight is the reason people choose Philips over other OLED brands. A wrong installation kills the effect entirely.
What We Do
The Full Philips Ambilight Installation
Everything from Ambilight clearance to mode configuration — as part of our professional TV mounting service.
Correct Ambilight Clearance
The single most important factor in a Philips Ambilight install. We use a bracket with the right standoff depth — 60–80mm from the wall — so the LEDs have room to project correctly. Too close and the Ambilight effect is blocked. We never use a standard flat bracket on an Ambilight TV.
OLED Panel Handling
Philips Ambilight OLED models use LG's OLED panel under Philips' own processor and Ambilight system. The panel is thin and fragile. We follow correct OLED handling throughout: two-person lift for larger sizes, no pressure on screen, panel protection until the last moment.
Ambilight-Friendly Cable Routing
Cables must be routed without disrupting the Ambilight light path. We plan cable management before mounting — routing cables through the clearance gap and down to trunking or through the wall — so they are hidden but do not block the Ambilight LEDs.
Ambilight & Picture Setup
Once mounted, we connect all inputs, pair your remote, connect to Wi-Fi, and configure Ambilight settings — brightness, sync mode (video, audio, or static), and colour bias. We verify the Ambilight projection looks correct in the room before we leave.

Common Questions
Philips Ambilight FAQ
How much clearance does a Philips Ambilight TV need from the wall?
Philips recommends at least 5–8cm of clearance between the back of the TV and the wall surface for Ambilight to project correctly. If the TV is mounted too close — as it would be with a standard flat bracket — the light reflects back off the wall at the wrong angle or is blocked entirely. The result is a patchy or invisible Ambilight effect. We use a bracket with the correct standoff depth to preserve the Ambilight projection.
What bracket do you use for a Philips Ambilight TV?
We use a low-profile tilt or fixed bracket with a controlled standoff depth — typically 60–80mm from the wall. This keeps the TV close enough to look clean on the wall while maintaining the minimum clearance Ambilight needs. We confirm the exact bracket specification for your model before the installation day.
Can the Philips Ambilight OLED panel be damaged during installation?
Yes. Philips Ambilight OLED TVs (OLED+959, OLED+908, and similar) use LG's OLED evo panel under Philips' own processing. OLED panels require careful handling — no pressure on the screen surface, correct lifting technique, and no face-down placement on unprotected surfaces. We treat every Ambilight OLED with the same care we bring to any OLED installation.
Can you hide cables on a Philips Ambilight TV?
Yes — with one important consideration. Because the TV needs clearance behind it for Ambilight projection, cables need to be routed so they don't disrupt the light. We route cables neatly through the Ambilight clearance gap — either via surface trunking below or through the wall — so they don't interfere with the projection. The result is tidy cables and working Ambilight.
Which Philips Ambilight TVs do you install?
We install all Philips Ambilight models including the OLED+959, OLED+908, OLED+937, The One (PUS8808, PUS7608), and older Ambilight models. We cover a wide TV-size range from 48" to 77". If you have an older Ambilight model not listed, get in touch — we install all Philips TVs.
