Corner TV wall mounting — is it possible and is it a good idea?

TV mounted on corner bracket angled toward seating area — Mount TV

Corner TV mounting is absolutely possible — and for some room layouts, it can be the best fit. The right bracket and a proper wall assessment are all it takes. Here is how it works, when it is a good idea, and when we would suggest a different approach.

Two ways to mount a TV in a corner

Option 1 — Full-motion bracket on one wall (most common)

A full-motion (articulating) bracket is fixed to one of the two corner walls. The bracket's arm extends and swivels the TV out into the room, angled toward the viewing position. This is the most common approach for corner mounting because:

  • The bracket fixes to a single solid wall rather than spanning a corner joint
  • The arm can be adjusted — pull the TV out to watch, push it back when not in use
  • The TV can be turned to face different parts of the room
  • Cable management is contained on one wall

The bracket extends typically 30–60cm from the wall. For most rooms, a full-motion bracket set at 45 degrees from the corner wall gives a viewing position that faces the room comfortably.

Option 2 — Dedicated corner bracket

A purpose-built corner bracket spans the junction between two walls and holds the TV at a fixed 45-degree angle into the room. These brackets typically anchor into both walls. They are a good solution when you want a fixed position and a cleaner look than a large extending arm.

The limitation is that the TV cannot be repositioned once mounted — it always faces at 45 degrees. If your seating is directly in front of the corner, this works perfectly. If your viewing position is more to one side, a full-motion bracket gives you more flexibility.

Cable management in a corner

Cable management is slightly more complex in a corner position, particularly with a full-motion bracket, because the arm moves. Cables need enough slack to follow the arm's movement without being pulled taut or tangled. There are two approaches:

  • Flexible cable spine — a plastic cable spine that runs along the bracket arm, allowing cables to flex with the movement. Neat and functional.
  • Surface trunking on the wall — cables drop straight down from the TV to a trunking channel on the wall, with enough slack at the bracket attachment point. Works well when the arm movement is limited.

Behind-wall cable routing is possible on plasterboard walls where there is a cavity to feed cables through. On brick or concrete walls, surface trunking is the standard solution for corner installations.

Wall construction in corners

Corner walls in UK homes are typically solid brick in older properties (Victorian, Edwardian, inter-war) — the most robust possible surface for TV mounting. In modern new-build properties, internal walls are plasterboard on a metal stud frame, including corners. We assess the construction before recommending a bracket and fixing approach.

Our approach on corner jobs

Corner TV mounting is part of our regular work. When you book, describe the corner — which walls are involved, whether there are windows or doors nearby, and where your seating is. We bring the right bracket on the day and mount to the wall that gives the best viewing angle for your specific layout. Get a quote or call 077 8933 8185.
