Bedroom vs Living Room

Why Bedroom Installs Are Different

A bedroom TV is not just a living room install at a different address. The viewing position changes everything.

Height for bed viewing is different

A bedroom TV is usually watched from a lying or semi-reclined position. This means the ideal mount height is 130–150cm to screen centre — notably higher than a living room install. Getting this wrong typically causes ongoing neck strain.

Tilt brackets are essential at bedroom height

At 130–150cm height, a flat (non-tilt) bracket points the screen straight at the ceiling for someone lying down. A downward tilt of 5–15 degrees is critical to bring the image into comfortable alignment.

Cable routing across the room

Unlike a living room where the TV unit hides cables, a bedroom TV is often on a plain wall with no furniture below it. Visible cables running down the wall look untidy — hiding them makes the install look significantly better.

Height Guide

The Right Height for Your Bedroom

Lying flat

Screen centre: 140–150cm from floor

Tilt bracket essential — 10–15° down tilt

Semi-reclined (propped on pillows)

Screen centre: 125–140cm from floor

Tilt bracket recommended — 5–10° down tilt

Sitting upright in bed

Screen centre: 100–115cm from floor

Tilt bracket useful — 0–5° tilt

We always measure from your actual bed position before marking the wall. These are guidelines — your specific setup may differ slightly.

Bracket Guide

Which Bracket for a Bedroom TV?

Recommended

Tilt Bracket

The standard choice for bedrooms. Allows 5–15 degree downward tilt. Fixed to the wall — no side-to-side movement. Clean, low-profile, and the correct solution for the majority of bedroom installs.

Best for: Most bedroom configurations

Full Motion (Articulating) Bracket

Can swivel left and right and tilt up and down. Useful if the TV needs to be seen from multiple positions in the room, or if the ideal wall position is not directly opposite the bed.

Best for: Corner position or multi-angle viewing

Fixed Flat Bracket

Suitable for bedroom TVs only when the mount height is at or near eye level when lying down — which is unusual. In most bedrooms, a fixed flat bracket will result in an uncomfortable viewing angle.

Best for: TV at 90–100cm centre height only

Common Questions

Bedroom TV Mounting FAQ

What is the best height to mount a TV in a bedroom?

In a bedroom, the TV is usually watched from a lying or semi-reclined position, so the ideal height is higher than in a living room. The centre of the screen should be approximately 130–150cm from the floor — this puts it at a comfortable viewing angle when you are lying in bed. We always measure from your bed position before drilling.

Do I need a tilt bracket for a bedroom TV?

For most bedroom installs, a tilt bracket is strongly recommended. Because the TV is mounted higher than eye level, a downward tilt of 5–15 degrees brings the screen into the correct viewing angle for watching from bed. A fixed flat bracket at bedroom height will cause neck strain and screen glare. Either works on the bracket — tell us when you book and we add the right tilt bracket to your quote, or supply your own and we'll fit it. We also carry tilt brackets in the van.

Can cables be hidden in a bedroom TV installation?

Yes — cable hiding is available as an add-on. We can hide cables using surface trunking along the wall (any wall type, clean and tidy, suitable for renters) or, on plasterboard walls only, route them inside the wall for a cable-free finish. Both options are available from the same visit.

What size TV is best for a bedroom wall?

For a typical bedroom at 3–4m viewing distance, a 43"–55" TV is ideal. At 5m+ distance, a 55"–65" TV works well. Bigger is not always better in a bedroom — a TV that is too large for the room creates eye strain from excessive horizontal scanning.

How long does a bedroom TV installation take?

A standard bedroom TV wall mount finishes in a single visit. If cable management behind the plasterboard wall is requested, the visit takes a little longer. We always estimate the total time honestly when you book.

Can you mount a bedroom TV on a wall with a headboard?

Yes — we often mount bedroom TVs on the same wall as the headboard, positioned at the foot of the bed. We take careful measurements to ensure the bracket clears the headboard and that the TV angle is correct for bed viewing. If the wall opposite the bed is better, we can assess that position too.

How much does bedroom TV mounting cost?

Bedroom TV mounting starts from £100. Most bedrooms use our Standard tier (from £150) — TV mounted, cables hidden, and a tilt bracket so you can watch from bed. See /pricing.

John Lewis delivered my new TV this morning and due to a system error they did not acknowledge the complimentary wall mount installation. I found Mount TV after a quick google showed excellent reviews so I fired over a WhatsApp message with photos and a video requesting a quote for the installation. I received an instant reply from Rayhan, who gave a very reasonable price for installation and trunking. He was over at 1-2pm, very professional and knowledgable throughout the process. The installation was very efficient and of high quality. I'm extremely happy with the end result. I highly recommend these guys and will be using them again if I decide to go for another wall mounted TV in the bedroom.
