Mounting a TV Above a Radiator
Mounting a TV above a radiator is usually safe once clearance, radiator output and the TV manufacturer’s heat limits are assessed together. We measure all three on the day before recommending a position — and fit a heat deflector shelf if clearance is borderline. Part of our full TV wall mounting service across London.
One of the most common layout constraints in UK homes — we do this regularly. City & Guilds Level 3 trained, heat deflector shelf available as an add-on.

Radiator Clearance Safety Guide
Distance from top of radiator to bottom of TV screen.
These are general guidelines. We assess the specific radiator type and output on every job — a low-output single-panel radiator at 10cm clearance is very different to a high-output double-panel convector at the same distance.
Our Assessment
What We Assess Before Drilling
Radiator output and type
A standard single-panel radiator produces far less heat output than a double-panel convector radiator the same size. We assess your specific radiator type and estimated output to determine the risk level.
Clearance measurement
We measure the exact distance from the top of the radiator to the underside of the TV at the proposed mounting height. This determines whether a heat deflector is required.
Cable route planning
We plan the cable route to avoid the radiator entirely where possible — routing cables to one side rather than directly behind the radiator body. This also makes future radiator servicing easier.
Add-On Option
Heat Deflector Shelf
A heat deflector shelf mounts directly to the wall above the radiator and redirects rising heat forward into the room — rather than straight up toward the TV. It is a simple, effective solution that:

Common Questions
TV Above Radiator FAQ
Is it safe to mount a TV above a radiator?
It can be safe — but it depends on the clearance between the top of the radiator and the bottom of the TV. The minimum recommended distance is 10–15cm for a standard UK panel radiator. Below this, the heat output from the radiator can damage the TV over time, particularly older LCD panels. Modern TVs are more heat-tolerant, but excessive heat will shorten component life. We assess the clearance on every job.
What is the minimum clearance needed between a radiator and a wall-mounted TV?
A common starting point is 10cm between the top of the radiator and the bottom of the TV screen, with 15–20cm preferred for high-output radiators or smaller rooms where heat accumulates. The right clearance depends on the radiator output and the TV manufacturer's temperature limits — a heat deflector shelf can help redirect heat forward, but suitability is confirmed on the day.
What is a heat deflector shelf and does it help?
A heat deflector (or radiator shelf) is a shelf fitted above the radiator that redirects rising heat forward and away from the wall — rather than rising straight up toward the TV. It is a commonly used solution when clearance is borderline; whether it brings clearance within the TV manufacturer's safe limits depends on the specific radiator output and the TV. We can supply and fit a heat deflector as part of the installation.
Will a TV above a radiator affect the room temperature?
A TV wall-mounted above a radiator does block some of the heat rising directly upward, which can slightly reduce the radiator's efficiency. The heat deflector shelf mitigates this by directing heat forward into the room rather than upward. In most cases, the effect is minor.
Does mounting above a radiator affect cable management?
Yes — cables running from the TV down to sockets below will pass close to or behind the radiator. We plan the cable route to avoid heat exposure — either routing cables to the side of the radiator rather than directly behind it, or using heat-rated trunking if behind-radiator routing is required.
Can you mount any TV size above a radiator?
In many cases, yes — but it depends on the TV size and weight, the wall type, and the radiator's heat output. Larger TVs create more of a heat shield effect, so for 65"+ above high-output radiators we strongly recommend a heat deflector shelf and confirm the clearance falls within the TV manufacturer's temperature limits. We assess the radiator output, clearance distance, and room size on the day before recommending a final position.
How much does TV mounting above a radiator cost?
TV mounting above a radiator starts from £100. Most jobs use our Standard tier (from £150); we leave a safe gap above the radiator and use a tilt bracket so heat doesn't track up the back of the TV. See /pricing.
