Metal C-studs, not timber
Modern new-builds use cold-rolled metal studs. A standard wood-screw won't hold — you need self-drilling screws designed for thin gauge steel, or heavy-duty toggle bolts.
Dry-lining over a cavity
Many new-build walls are plasterboard on battens with an air gap behind. Behind that is often concrete, blockwork, or another stud wall. We detect the construction before drilling.
Fire-rated partition walls
Internal walls in new-build apartments are often fire-rated. We seal fixings with intumescent filler where needed to keep the fire barrier intact.

What's different about new build walls compared to older homes?
Three main differences: (1) walls are thinner — typically 75mm vs 100mm+ in older homes; (2) studs are metal C-section, not timber, so you need a different fixing approach; (3) many internal walls are dry-lined — plasterboard over a timber or metal frame, with no solid backing.
